Good things take time and care! As part of the museum’s architectural restoration by Jorma Lehtinen and Anu Laurila, I used a site inventory and its history to create a maintenance plan (1999-2004) for the Visavuori atelier’s garden and grounds. Visavuori was built as a home and studio for sculptor Emil Wikström (1864-1942) and later for cartoonist Kari Suomalainen (1920-1999) and their families. The site is in Sääksmäki, near Lake Vanajavesi, 140km north of Helsinki. Visavuori Museum Foundation, the client, operates the museum. In 2004, the museum restoration project was awarded the Europa Nostra Prize.
